BIOGRAPHY:

Dexter Ruffin, born in the rural town of Wilson NC, proved his penchant and prowess for all things musical at the age of nine by teaching himself how to play piano and read notation unaided by the guidance of professors. His talent was soon discovered and was given formal training by Dr. Henry Doskey of East Carolina University and Eric Larsen at the North Carolina School of the Arts, where he received his B.M. in Piano Performance. In 2006, Ruffin would go to win the school’s annual concerto competition performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 in C major, Op.15. En route to receiving his Master’s from East Carolina University in 2020 after a hiatus from formal education, Dexter has in the interim participated in many festivals and concert venues in America and abroad giving him the opportunity to share his talent to a wider base including attaining first prize Baltimore International Piano Competition in 2019. Following this award, Ruffin capped his Master's program winning ECU’s Concerto Competition in 2020 with Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto. He currently teaches piano at Barton College in Wilson NC and serves as Music Minister for an Episcopal parish in his hometown.
